VARIANTS 5 AND 6: A pair of unique breeds, these variants tend to camouflage well with their environments, the Mountain Riolu blending in the with dark stones it thrives in and the Plains Riolu hiding within the tall grass. However, they are often favored by trainers for both their rarity and their appeal in contests, and some researchers have theorized that these variants may be favored by their kind as mates. Similar to Variants 1 and 2, the Mountain Riolu has a darker coat than the Plains Riolu, however, the latter’s blue fur tends to be darker and bolder than the former’s. Though these colorations can often make them stand out when trying to survive against natural enemies. VARIANTS 3 AND 4: What are typically known as the “shiny” variants, rarely found among the species. VARIANTS 1 AND 2: The most commonly found Riolu breeds, as described in the previous paragraph. In contrast, the Plains Riolu is built more for speed and has a notably lighter coat than the former, spending its youth playing and racing within the fields and meadows of Kalos and Unova. Mountain Riolu tend to spend a lot of time training upon the highest peaks of Sinnoh and some parts of Unova, and playing with others of their kind in caves and valleys, and are physically adept to withstand the cold, harsh conditions of their habitat and defend themselves against hostile Pokemon–specifically Rock, Ground, and Iron types. Though specific details of the body and colorations may differ and blend among all members of the species and it’s evolution, Riolu can typically be split into two categories: Mountain Riolu and Plains, or Grassy, Riolu.
